Stamford’s new restaurant offers an innovative take on classic Italian cuisine

Good Italian cuisine and delicious cocktails served in an immaculate atmosphere: that’s what a new restaurant in Fairfield County promises its guests.

Cugine’s Italian, located in the Harbor Point community of Stamford at 121 Towne Street, opened in June 2022 and quickly gained favor with foodies with dishes like fried calamari, spaghetti boia and focaccia.

Billing itself as an “inventive take on classic Italian cuisine”, Cugine’s pairs its pizzas, pastas and crudos with “fine” cocktails and a “sure to please” wine and beer list, reads the restaurant’s profile. on OpenTable.

The vibe is described as warm and dimly lit with dark furniture and a vintage playlist that transports diners to the days of Frank Sinatra and speakeasys.

“Our goal with Cugine’s is to provide not just Harbor Point, but Fairfield County as a whole, a whole new Italian dining experience,” owner John Nealon told food blog CTbites.

The menu is “very chef-driven,” with local ingredients and products from local Fairfield County partners, added co-owner Morgan Nealon.

After only a few months of activity, online reviews are overwhelmingly positive.

“Went here for dinner with friends and it was the best experience I had in Stamford. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was amazing, and the music was impeccable,” Mackenzie G., from Boston, wrote on Yelp.

“We had the wild boar gnocchi, spaghetti boia and cavatelli ricotta pesto for starters. (All were the best pastas I have ever had). The service was amazing. 10/10.

“What a great experience. The owner, John, was very friendly and made suggestions that we didn’t ignore,” JR, of Peekskill, wrote on Yelp.

“Had the crispy sampler, meatballs, homemade focaccia, pesto gnocchi and capellini. The martinis were flowing and the service couldn’t have been better. Will definitely make it a regular hangout.”
