Signature dish: Italian al dente cuisine builds on success | Culture & Leisure
After successfully running Mayta’s Peruvian kitchen for several years, restaurant owner Jorge Velasquez wanted to bring something different to the Frederick community. He recently opened Al Dente Italian Cuisine, located in the same mall where Mayta’s continues to operate. Velasquez lived in San Francisco and worked at an Italian restaurant for six years. At Al Dente, this appreciation of Italian cuisine is evident in the menu: antipasti (appetizers), such as meatballs, calamari and mussels; insalate (salads); pizza; and a variety of pastas, including gluten-free options. Specialties include New York steak with fettuccine in a homemade pesto sauce and pollo al marsala, which is chicken breast braised in marsala wine with mushrooms and thyme, served with fettuccine in an Alfredo sauce . If you ask for Velasquez, Al Dente offers unique flavors enhanced by local produce. He loves the town of Frederick very much and can’t wait to showcase what his latest restaurant has to offer.
