Glasgow’s top-rated Italian restaurant is a ‘hidden gem’ inside the Baillieston pub

When you ask a Glasgow resident what their favorite food is, chances are the answer will be Italian.

Italian culture runs through the veins of our city, thanks to Italian immigration to Glasgow over the decades.

And, of course, the cultural impact of this often manifests itself through the food – you’d be hard-pressed not to find some sort of Italian restaurant in every corner of town.

We all have our favorite Italian restaurant of course – popular names like Paesano Pizzeria, the legendary La Lanterna or the iconic Coia’s Cafe will no doubt be listed for many.

But perhaps not on the minds of many Glasgow residents is an Italian restaurant tucked away in the back of an eastern pub, which according to TripAdvisor – and many rave reviews – is considered one of the top rated Italian restaurants in town.

In second place, just behind the fantastic LL Italiano in the ranking of the best Italian restaurants in Glasgow – although, based in Newton Mearns, LL Italiano is technically in East Renfrewshire – is Massimos at The Log Cabin pub, located on Bredisholm Road in Baillieston.

It seems to do a roaring trade on the back of Italian classics such as fettuccine, lasagna al forno and stone-baked pizza, while serving a number of British staples including steak and beer pie and even the wellington beef.

Describing itself as “a cozy family business, using the freshest ingredients to create delicious Scottish Italian dishes“, it has over the years become something of an eastern institution – a quick glance at the reviews of customers on TripAdvisor gives you insight into just why. Out of 194 votes cast, an incredible 167 gives Massimos the full five stars.

Following a recent visit, a customer raved about his “favorite” restaurant in the city and was one of many to hail Italian as a “hidden gem”.

Another customer said Massimos was ‘small, but friendly’, commenting: ‘We go there so often and love it. The best Italian for miles! »

Of course, for many it’s just the food, which one person says just keeps getting better. They said: “When this restaurant first opened the food was outstanding. Like some places the quality can then lag. Not Massimos. They have excelled year after year.

“The food is excellent and the menu has plenty of choice. They have also retained the same wonderful staff. It is a pleasure to enjoy the food and also to be treated to the best service.”

With many popular restaurants, meals can sometimes be quite expensive. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case at Massimos, with several customers commenting on the excellent prices.

One person, who described the restaurant as ‘a diamond in the rough’, said: ‘Love this place – the food, the staff, great food at extremely low prices.’

Another added: “If you want a meal in town without the high prices this is the one. I for one will definitely be back very soon.”

But above all, it seems the main reason people keep coming back is service with a smile, with commentary, describing the dinner as a five-star experience, summing up the comments of many.

It reads: “The staff are excellent and run the restaurant like clockwork, the food is excellent as we had a party of five there and everyone emptied their plates with every course.

“I was surprised by the total bill as I expected it to be much higher.

“I can definitely recommend Massimos.”

The reviews certainly speak for themselves.
