Do you like Italian cuisine? Twin Cities nonprofit celebrates the ‘Father of Italian Food’


The event will take place on Sunday at several local restaurants.

MINNEAPOLIS – After more than a year of online-only outreach, a local non-profit organization dedicated to supporting small Italian villages is returning to the in-person events.

And luckily for the Minnesotans, you don’t have to board a plane to participate.

According to the organization itself, Espérienza Italia inspires “the revitalization of rural Italian villages through linguistic, culinary and other immersion programs”.

Before the pandemic, this awareness included trips to Italy. And although they are not planning an international excursion yet, they are organizing a truly Italian event on Sunday August 8th. The event marks the 201st birthday of Pellegrino Artusi – widely regarded as “the father of Italian cuisine“.

Tom Gabriel with Esperienza Italia spoke to Karla Hult from KARE 11 about the event for KARE 11 News at 4.

Espérienza explained how to participate in the event, which will be held in several local restaurants:

“The Twin Cities restaurants, Woodfire in Eastside and Harriet Brasserie, will be hosting special dinners that day. using Artusi recipes. Plus, Sebastian Joes, Everett & Charlie and other local businesses are planning to join in the fun. ”

For the occasion, Espérienza is working with Casa Artusi, a renowned cooking school in Forlimpopolo, Italy, dedicated to the philosophies and recipes of Artusi. In coordination with Casa Artusi, participating restaurants will create a unique menu highlighting some favorite Italian dishes.

Each chef will create their own version, but the recipes will all be taken from the famous Artusi cookbook, “La scienza in cucina e arte di mangiar bene” (“The science of cooking and the art of eating well”). Full menus will be posted online at Woodfire at Eastside and Harriet Brasserie.
