Baci’s Kitchen Italian restaurant in Rockford closes

ROCKFORD — After five years of serving up paninis, calzones, classic pizzas and other Italian delights, Baci’s kitchen2990 N. Perryville Road, will permanently close on Sunday.

“We will be open all day until 8 a.m.,” restaurant owner Nikko Castrogiovanni said. “This will be our last hurray.”

Baci’s Kitchen opened in November 2016 and offers breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Business at the east side restaurant has been buoyant since Castrogiovanni first revealed plans to close about a month ago, citing rising food and utility costs and an increase in the minimum wage.

the catering and hotel industry are still grappling with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and business restrictions, which were designed to stop the spread of the virus, Castrogiovanni said.

“Nobody really wants to see us shut down, so it’s been a little emotional,” he said. “Regular customers all say I should move to another location.”

Castrogiovanni hasn’t decided what’s next, but restoration is in his blood. Her father, Nick, is the former owner of Ciao Bella Italian Kitchen, 6500 E. Riverside Blvd. The establishment has since been renamed Le Pomodoro.

After Baci’s Kitchen is permanently closed, Castrogiovanni will begin disposing of restaurant supplies, including cookware, plates, dishes and utensils.

As for what will he miss the most?

“It’s kind of funny to say, but I think I’m going to miss all the headaches associated with my employees,” he said. “And, of course, I will miss the customers. I met many new friends.
