A new Italian restaurant has just opened in Jersey City

Does New Jersey Need Another Italian Restaurant? Maybe not as much as all the other states, but if you build it, they will come.

Our state is home to probably more Italian restaurants per capita than any other place in the world except Italy. And even this competition would be tight.

The appetite of people for Italian cuisine as well as the expertise and competition from chefs and restaurateurs keep driving up the numbers. Jersey City is growing by leaps and bounds, especially in areas like Journal Square, Newport, and Downtown.

The former GP, who announced his closure at the end of 2019, could not have predicted the construction boom to come thanks to the pandemic and other factors. Their misfortune opened an opportunity for a new restaurant at this location at 236 Pavonia Ave. next to Hamilton Park.

Enter Chickie’s, a new Italian restaurant that got a liquor license in May and finally opened earlier this month with a smooth opening on December 13.

They present themselves as a pizzeria, pasta and restaurant serving wine, beer and cocktails suited to their dishes.

The buzz so far has been great and they hope to be there during the Jersey City boom and beyond.

If you miss going to New York for dinner, at this point you might be better off with amazing views of Manhattan from Jersey City with food that could even be better.
